About Indiafest
Since its inception in 2003 as
The Festival of India, Indiafest has grown some 35
to 50% annually, drawing over 15,000 people to our
event in 2007 – making it the largest one day
festival in the City of London. In 2008, Indiafest
took the next step in its evolution, and moved
outdoors while expanding its programming to cover 2
days, seeing some 20,000 people in attendance. In 2009, Indiafest expanded its footprint with the closing down a City of London Street, and once again we increased our attendance, welcoming over 25,000 people to Indiafest.
Indiafest featured...
1. Stage entertainment that features easy to
appreciate fashion shows, cooking and sari tying
demonstrations, folk/classical dances and other
entertainment, that will run continuously throughout
the entire day.
2. Food stalls that will showcase and highlight
regional delicacies representative of India. The
individual food vendors will serve samplers and
complete meals with many menu items not normally
served in many Indian restaurants
3. Retail booths with exotic Indian handicrafts from
all over India, Handlooms, Clothing, Arts & Crafts,
Souvenirs, Mehendi (henna), Jewellery, and more!
IndiaFest ’09 celebrated with a new and
expanded format this year, with our move to an
outdoor festival which tooking place over 2 days - on July
24 and 25, 2008, outdoors at the Covent Garden
Market.
On Friday, July 24, we held a
free live, outdoor concert featuring the mesmerizing
rhythms inspired by the
traditions of India as well as contemporary versions
of traditional songs from the Indian diaspora.
On
Saturday, the 25th of July, Indiafest ran all day, and featured exotic Indian
food and snacks, live entertainment, interactive
arts and crafts, and a delightful sampling of the
sights, sounds and tastes of India in the atmosphere
of an outdoor Indian fair.
Our event has always drawn rave reviews from
everyone who attended, from our Artists, Vendors,
Sponsors, & Audiences. Over the last five years, we
have built significant bridges with the London
Communities and we have witnessed our audience
demographic changing with our event drawing greater
numbers of people from outside the Indian and South
Asian Community demographics. The attendees were
people with a strong interest in India, things
Indian and a great desire to travel to and visit the exotic and vast
sub-continent that is India.
We look
forward to continuing to expand and enhance
Indiafest, and
we are confident that with your support and
assistance, IndiaFest
will continue to be an even greater success than in previous
years. |
